Carolyn Braden's OPI over Shellac
I put two coats of CND Shellac in Negligee on first. I followed with Seche Clear base coat, two coats of OPI Crown Me Already, and one coat of Seche Vite top coat. When I layer regular polish over my Shellac, it lasts about 6 days. When it chips, I quickly use polish remover to swipe the OPI off and reapply a base coat, OPI polish and a top coat. My CND will last 2 weeks and it enables me to experiment with all my favorite regular polish colors!

Carolyn Braden tries OPI Shatter over CND Shellac
I had some time to kill so I decided to finally try mixing regular polish with CND Shellac. I did three coats of Cream Puff (after a shellac base coat), then a layer of shellac top coat. I removed the tacky top layer of top coat with 99% Alcohol. I then did a layer of Seche brand base coat, a layer of OPI black Shatter, then two coats of Seche Vite top coat. I have no idea how this will hold up so I will blog about my results.

************Update!
I am now on day 4 of my manicure and there is not a chip yet! I am going swimming tomorrow, so let's see if they continue to hold up.
****2nd Update
They officially held up for 7 days. They would have lasted longer but I got nervous about something and started picking at them. I thought I broke that habit but sometimes it comes back!

Carolyn Braden is excited for OPI's Muppet Collection, Holiday 2011
Visit All Lacquered Up's blog about the upcoming OPI's line of Muppet inspired polish colors. Hmmmmm......could they be promoting Jason Segel's muppet movie? I think so. It comes to theater's on November 23rd, 2011 just in time for Thanksgiving.

Carolyn Braden's CND Shellac Hot Pop Pink
Here is the CND Shellac color Hot Pop Pink. This picture doesn't quite show exactly how pretty the color is. I would describe it as a magenta type pink. It's not too bright and I am loving it. I'm trying a french manicure using Cream Puff and Negligee next week so I'll post the results then.

Carolyn Braden "Loving Sally Hansen Salon Effects!"
The "black lace" nail art I previously wrote about came off so easily. I used regular nail polish remover, cleaned my nails up, and put on "Kitty Kitty". I love these! They truly live up to what the package claims.

Carolyn Braden's Update to Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips
I am happy to report how successful I was with Sally Hansen's Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips. Tomorrow will mark one full week of perfect polished nails! This product is for you if you are tired of spending money in salons on manicures that chip within one or two days. I am not talking about acrylic nails. Polish stays on acrylics for weeks at a time. (I used to have acrylics and I tried gel sculptured nails too). Regular nail polish does not last very long on natural nails. It's a fact. I am still interested in OPI Axxium Gel Polish, but for now I am absolutely loving this Sally Hansen product. I have only a couple of tiny chips, but other than that, the polish strips work. I am currently teaching art. I started back to school Monday and that was going to be the true test. I've washed my hands about 15 times a day at school, worked in clay, painted, cleaned tables, used oil pastel, and sanitized my hands over and over the last 3 days. The strips stayed on my nails. I can't believe someone finally invented a nail product that lives up to what it says it will do.
I still have the "laced up" pattern on and today I purchased leopard print and another box of laced up. You can purchase them in colors or in patterns. Each box of 16 strips retails for $9.99. (I bought mine at Walgreen's). I received a good deal today because they were buy one, get one half price. The lady at the make-up counter had a coupon for me too, so I got them even cheaper. I believe you must follow the directions perfectly in order for them to work like they did for me. The only test now is seeing how easy they are to remove. The directions say it will come off with nail polish remover, so I will wait until the weekend to take it off and then report what the removal is like.

Carolyn Braden Tries Sally Hansen Salon Effects Polish Strips
I just purchased Sally Hansen Salon Effects Polish Strips. I got the "Laced Up" design, which looks like my nail is covered in black lace. My nails look great, but I am truly wondering if it will last. The box says it can last up to 10 days. Each design comes with 16 strips, so if you mess up putting one on, you can take it off and use one of the extra strips. I felt like they were fairly easy to apply, as the directions were very detailed. I will post whether they are worth trying or not when I see how long they last. It took me about two hours to fully apply them, but I wanted to make sure I did it exactly correct so I could give an accurate review after I see how long they stay on my nails.
I am very interested in trying OPI's Axxium gel nail polish. I know my salon does them for $45.00, which I thought was pretty expensive. After doing a lot of reading about it, I am considering buying an Axxium kit online and trying it myself. I have taught myself how to do so many things and have come out with very professional results when I've practiced enough, We'll see what I do soon....... :)

Carolyn Braden: Waiting for the Katy Perry OPI Line!
I want the Katy Perry OPI line to be in stores now! Beauty First said they'd have it in January 2011. I know that's not too far away, but I want it now! (I sound like Veruca Salt!). One of the polishes crackles when you put it on, making it seem like leopard spots are all over your nails. It reminds me of the crackle paint you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. The polishes are also named after some of the songs on her new album, Teenage Dream.
Check out the colors at http://www.opi.com/
The Burlesque line is a great one too! Check that one out while you wait for the Katy Perry Line. I love my Sparkle-icous!

Just a Few Inspirations....
Top Gun. What is it about this movie all of the sudden??? I have a feeling about it for some reason. Maybe I should go watch it.
Boot sandals. I picked up a pair on sale a couple of weeks ago. These are ankle high, zip in the back, open toed, and have fringe on the top. They are brown leather. At first, I did not like these shoes!!! My mom encouraged me to try them on and they were so comfortable and looked really cute! Worn with the right outfit, they rock!!
Matte nail polish will be everywhere this fall. I knew it was coming! A while ago, I had my nails done and the polish turned matte for some reason when it went on my nails. I really liked the look. That polish, in particular, wasn't supposed to turn matte, but it made me think. Why not matte?? OPI is bringing it to stores soon so try it and see if you like it.
READ!!! I can't say it enough. Read a book this summer! I've read four so far and I'm going to pick out another one tonight. My faves right now are The Shack (William P. Young), The Alchemist (Paulo Coehlo), and anything by Sophie Kinsella (her real name is Madeleine Wickham). Kinsella has another book coming out soon! I have the new Alice Sebold (Almost Moon) on hold to read soon as well.
Scarves. Yeah, yeah...I know they've been around for a while in fashion now. But go find yours at a consignment or thrift store. You'll find some unique ones and won't spend a fortune. I was at a Zegna outlet recently and they had a scarf marked from $495.00 down to $35.00. Yes, a good deal when you consider the price, but wow! $495.00! Someone call me out if you ever see me say that I spent that on a scarf. Yes, some scarves I own may have cost that much once upon a time, but I didn't spend that much on them! They were incredible thrift finds. I promise!
Fall inspirations coming soon!
